Both Jin and Seung Lee hail from Korea but before fashion, Seung (who is the design side of the duo) studied sculpture at the Ecole de Beaux Arts in Paris, later going on to study fashion at the Studio Bercot. It is this background in sculpture and the fine arts that really shines through every collection, and it is one of the reasons the brand has garnered such attention. Jin, on the other hand, studied fashion design at Parsons (both NY and Paris) for two years before realizing that design just wasn’t his strong point. Despite this, he never actually left the fashion world, always working in the industry in some way of the other, finally meeting Seung when working at a fashion house in Korea. They finally brought their talents State side in 2004.
CLU began humbly. Having moved to Los Angeles, the duo immediately began sewing away, creating a collection that reflected the laid-back, easy-going lifestyle of their new home. Soon after, however, they wanted to take the look to new heights of sophistication and innovation, striving to create haute-couture for the t-shirt. CLU is hardly your traditional t-shirt - it’s an addiction.
